After submitting an application for admission to UVSC, all new students must complete the appropriate assessment requirements before registering for courses. This will ensure proper placement in English and Math courses required for the degree.
COMPASS
The New Student Assessment (NSA) usually takes about 2 hours. Students may take the COMPASS test at any college offering it and have their scores faxed to the UVSC Testing Services at (801)863-7815
ACT
To take the ACT National Test you must send in your registration form or apply online at www.act.org.
- ENGLISH: Students who have met the following ACT requirements MAY be waived from the Assessment Test:
- Scores MUST be less than three years old.
- Students who have a score of 19 or higher in English and a 19 or higher for their overall Composite score OR a score of 19 or higher in English and Reading.
- MATH: Students who have met the following ACT requirements MAY be waived from the Assessment Test:
- Scores MUST be less than two years old.
- Students who have a score of 19 or higher in the Math section.
SAT
The SAT test will also be accepted to fulfill the college test requirement, so you could take the SAT test if you would prefer it over the ACT. SAT information can be found at "SAT Nation Test." To take the SAT National Test you must send in your registration form or apply online at www.ets.org
- SAT scores of 500 in English and/or Math (Official reports not older than 3 years are accepted, Math scores are to be no older than 2 years and verbal scores no older than 3 years)
Exceptions
- Students 21 or older by the admissions deadline.
- Students with 15 transferable credits; however, if English and math courses have not been taken, the New Student Assessment will still be required before registering.
- Students registered for concurrent enrollment courses.
- International students.
