What kind of Educational benefits am I eligible
for?
There are several different Chapters of Educational Benefits
available for Veterans and each have specific criteria. Benefits
may be available for those who have served or are presently
serving on active duty; those serving in the National Guard
or Reserves; and those dependents of 100% disabled, or deceased
veterans. You can go to the following Web site for more information
on whether you may qualify for any of these Educational Benefits:
http://www.gibill.va.gov/GI_Bill_Info/benefits.htm
How do I apply for the GI Bill?
The fastest way to get approved with the VA is to start your
paperwork on line at: vabenefits.vba.va.gov/vonapp/main.asp
If you fill out the main application on line, there are still
some items that need to be sent to the VA rep at UVSC.
Please contact the VA rep at UVSC for more information:
Will my Educational Benefits Pay for my tuition
and books?
All of your educational benefits will come directly to you
by mail or be deposited in your checking account at your request.
It is your responsibility to pay for your tuition, fees and
books by the due date. Tuition may be paid online through
UVLINK.
Books may be purchased by checking the website: http://www.uvsc.edu/bookstore/
Can I receive an Advance Payment?
Students pursuing the Global Aviation Program are not eligible
for Advance Payment of their GI Bill at UVSC.
When will I receive my payments?
Veterans Educational Benefits normally take about 6 to 8 weeks
after we have sent in your enrollment. Your paperwork is electronically
sent to Muskogee Oklahoma after we have verified your enrollment.
You will be paid at the end of each month you are enrolled
in courses. For example, you will receive your check for February
in the beginning of March. Remember to notify the UVSC Veteran's
Rep as soon as you register for the next set of courses, so
you can have continuous enrollment and your checks will not
be late.
Can I be paid for all course work?
A student receiving VA educational benefits must be degree
seeking. As long as the courses you take are applying toward
your degree, you can be paid for those courses.
Are there special requirements for flight courses?
YES! The VA will only pay for courses that are required for
your degree. The VA pays with two types of payments. You
may only use one program at a time.
School Attendance Program: The GI Bill
- School Attendance is a monthly payment based on the amount
of credit hours you are enrolled in each semester. 12 credit
hours is considered full time during a 15 week semester
and would receive the full VA benefit. Part-time hours would
receive half the VA benefit, etc. All classes must apply
toward your major. The MGI Bill benefits do not start until
after school starts since you are being paid to attend school.
Your enrollment in school will be certified to the VA by
the UVSC Veterans Office.
The VA requires that the following flight classes be taken
through a SAA approved flight school if you are using the
MGI Bill school attendance benefit: AVSC 1110, 1230, 1250,
2310, 2410, 2430, 2450, & 2510. If your flight school
is not SAA approved then the credit hours for these classes cannot be counted
toward your credit hours that semester. To find out if your
flight school is SAA approved contact your flight school
or your State Approving Agency
VA Flight: (60/40 program) For Commercial Pilot
Courses: If you are flying at a VA approved flight
school AND you have already obtained your Private Pilots
license, you may be eligible for this Flight program. It
pays 60% of your charges for the Commercial Pilot courses,
including solo hours. These courses include: AVSC 1220,
1230, 1240, 1250, 2440, and 2450 . (You may still do the
60/40 program at an approved Flight School, without taking
these courses.) If you want to receive credit for these
classes toward a UVSC degree, you will still register as
usual for your courses through UVSC, and pay tuition, but
the VA paperwork will be completed by your flight school
instead of UVSC. They will monitor all of your flight time
and report it to the VA. The VA then pays 60% of the cost
of your flight time. Please check with the VA Office in
your area at (800) 827-1000 to see if there is a flight
school near you that is VA approved. When you are done using
the Flight 60/40 program, you may return to the School Attendance
program by contacting the UVSC Veteran's office and completing
the proper paperwork.
CHAPTER 35 students: You may only be
certified for credit (GI Bill, or VA Educational Benefits
School Attendance) regardless of whether it is the private
or commercial pilot training.

own evaluation, however. Further information may be obtained
